Lemuel Betancourt, age 47, is an experienced business manager
living in Gainesville, Georgia. He is currently employed in various project
management roles for an electrical industry staffing firm. He is also currently
enrolled in the Networking Specialist Studies program at Lanier Technical
Institute. His career experiences include Dean of Christian Education, Church
Administrator, and food industry management-level positions (among others).
Born a United States Citizen in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, Lemuel graduated from West Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and later earned a Masters Degree in Christian Education from the Christian University of Philadelphia. He is the proud father of three adult children: Zicri B. Betancourt, Katherine Veras, and Hanan Betancourt. His sister Dr. Marlyn Betancourt is a well-known and accomplished dentist serving the Gainesville / Hall County region.
Lemuel Betancourt has lived in Gainesville since 2001, when he moved to the area to open a restaurant business and subsequently a day care center, which he operated for 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in Florida for 9 years.
"Growing up in Puerto Rico, I learned a lot from my father and mother," explained Betancourt. "For example, the importance and value of hard work, faith in God, and perseverance. My father was always an entrepreneur and enjoyed being his own boss, with experience in cafeterias, a butcher shop, a pest control company and other initiatives. Nevertheless, life in Puerto Rico was not without challenges and struggles," Betancourt explained. "Things were never handed to us on a silver platter."
As a young man, Betancourt gained vital business experience as a newspaper delivery boy, landscaper, restaurant server, car wash attendant, and more. "I was particularly influenced by my mother's many acts of sacrifice and service for others," he explained. "I remember her commitment to church service, which inspired me to participate in many mission trips including one that took me on a cross-country trail through the entire Amazon River in Brazil. I also traveled on missions to Africa, Bolivia, Colombia, most of the Caribbean, Venezuala, Honduras, and Germany."
Lemuel's list of volunteer community service roles is extensive and includes numerous church missions, church youth outreach programs, individualized counseling for children and families, support services for immigrants, and much more. His hobbies include martial arts, painting, reading, writing, and fitness training. Skills include art, music, construction, interior design, computer programming, business administration, and project management. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
When asked about his life principles, his answer is concise and direct: "Serve God, respect yourself, help others, do the right thing, and forgive to be forgiven."
"I strive to serve others with commitment, sacrifice, kindness, honesty, and humility," Lemuel explained. "In humility, I seek to learn from others because I don't claim to have all the solutions and there are always many different viewpoints to consider. Keep an open mind and attempt to understand as much information as possible before making decisions that impact others."
